Programs at VIPERs Academy

Learn – Play – Lead – Grow
VIPERs Academy provides an engaging after-school experience where children receive support, stay active, build friendships, explore their interests, and grow in confidence.
Program overview
More than after school
At VIPERs Academy, the hours after the school day are filled with purpose, connection, and opportunity. Our program is designed to give young people a positive place to complete schoolwork, enjoy active play, participate in creative and enriching activities, practice leadership, and build relationships with caring adults and peers.
Each VIPERs Academy experience is built around four core pillars: Learn, Play, Lead, and Grow.
| Learn | Play | Lead | Grow |
| Children receive encouragement with homework, reading, enrichment activities, problem-solving, and new skills. | Children enjoy games, movement, recreation, and time to connect with friends in a positive environment. | Children practice teamwork, communication, responsibility, decision-making, and leadership. | Children build confidence, creativity, character, independence, and a strong sense of belonging. |
VIPERs pathway
Every child has a place to grow
VIPERs Academy is designed to meet children where they are and help them grow through each stage of their school-age years. Our program groups create age-appropriate opportunities for learning, fun, confidence, teamwork, and leadership.
You can use these three program cards. The memory from our planning confirms VIPER Cadets for grades 1–2; use the Operatives and Captains grade ranges below as a starting structure, then update them to match your final plan before publishing.
Program groups
VIPER Cadets
Grades 1–2

A welcoming foundation for younger students. Cadets build routines, confidence, friendships, curiosity, and a love for learning through guided activities, active play, creativity, and supportive encouragement.
VIPER Operatives
Grades 3–5

A hands-on experience for children ready to explore, create, collaborate, and take on new challenges. Operatives strengthen teamwork, problem-solving, independence, and positive leadership skills.
VIPER Captains
Grades 6–8

A leadership-focused experience for older students. Captains build responsibility, communication, mentoring, goal-setting, service, and the confidence to help lead within their community.
A day at VIPERs
What an afternoon can look like
Every day may look a little different based on age group, school schedules, special activities, and community partnerships. This sample reflects the balanced experience VIPERs Academy is designed to provide.
Then use a general, non-time-specific flow until your operating hours are confirmed:
- Arrival and welcome — Children check in, settle in, connect with peers, and transition from the school day.
- Snack and social time — Time to recharge, talk, and prepare for the afternoon.
- Learn — Homework support, reading, educational games, enrichment, or project-based activities.
- Play — Recreation, movement, games, sports, wellness, or outdoor activities when available.
- Lead and create — Clubs, arts, STEM, music, service projects, teamwork challenges, and leadership activities.
- Reflection and pickup — Children clean up, reflect on the day, prepare for pickup, and transition home.
A common after-school program flow includes arrival/check-in, snack, homework or academic support, physical activity, enrichment, and dismissal; use your final licensed operating plan and staffing model to set the actual times and procedures.licensingregulations.acf.hhs+1
