Learn – Play – Lead – Grow
Every Afternoon
At VIPERs Academy, every afternoon is designed to give young people a positive, engaging place to transition after the school day. Children have opportunities to recharge, connect with friends, receive support, stay active, explore their interests, and build confidence.
Our daily rhythm balances learning, recreation, creativity, leadership, and time to simply be a kid.
What an afternoon may look like
Every VIPERs Academy afternoon may look a little different based on school dismissal times, age group, weather, children’s interests, special events, available space, and community partnerships.
The schedule below is a general example of the kind of balanced experience VIPERs Academy is designed to provide.
Arrival and welcome
Children arrive, check in, put away their belongings, and transition from the school day into the VIPERs Academy environment.
This is a time to settle in, connect with friends, choose a calm activity, and prepare for the afternoon ahead.
Snack and social time
Children have time to recharge, enjoy a snack when provided, talk about their school day, and practice positive communication with peers.
Snack and social time is also an opportunity for children to slow down, build friendships, and feel connected to the group.
Learn time
Children may receive encouragement with homework, reading, organization, study skills, educational games, hands-on projects, and other enrichment activities.
Learning looks different for every VIPER:
- Cadets may focus on homework habits, reading, storytelling, educational games, and simple hands-on discovery.
- Operatives may explore project-based learning, STEM challenges, problem-solving, research, collaboration, and creative projects.
- Captains may work on study skills, goal-setting, career awareness, leadership projects, practical life skills, and personal interests.
Play and movement
Children need time to move, laugh, recharge, and have fun after a full school day.
VIPERs may participate in group games, recreation, sports, fitness activities, movement challenges, wellness activities, and outdoor play when space and weather allow.
Create and explore
Children may participate in hands-on enrichment experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
Activities may include:
- Arts, crafts, design, and creative projects
- Music, rhythm, movement, and performance
- STEM, science, building, and problem-solving
- Reading, writing, storytelling, and media projects
- Team challenges and cooperative games
- Life-skills activities
- Seasonal themes, celebrations, and special events
- Guest speakers and community activities when available
Lead and grow
Leadership is part of the VIPERs Academy experience at every age.
Children may practice leadership by making positive choices, helping with group responsibilities, encouraging peers, sharing ideas, solving problems, participating in team challenges, helping plan activities, and reflecting on their goals.
- Cadets learn leadership through routines, taking turns, kindness, cleanup, and helping friends.
- Operatives build leadership through teamwork, problem-solving, group roles, collaboration, and sharing ideas.
- Captains develop leadership through responsibility, goal-setting, activity planning, youth voice, service opportunities, and age-appropriate peer encouragement.
Reflection and pickup
At the end of the day, children take time to clean up, gather their belongings, reflect on the day, and prepare for pickup or another approved end-of-day transition.
A predictable closing routine helps young people end their afternoon feeling organized, supported, and proud of what they accomplished.
